Originally developed at Dartmouth University in the 1950s, beer pong has exploded in popularity among young people in the last several years. The rules of beer pong vary widely - here is no standard canon on how the game is to be played. The fundamentals of the game, however, are the same everywhere. A long table, traditionally a ping pong table hosts two teams, one at either end. Teams typically consist of two people each with players alternating throws, though the numbers or order can be different depending on the house rules. Each team has a bowling-pin style triangle of cups, most often 10 but occasionally 6 for the faint of heart, filled about a third of the way with beer. The teams alternate tossing a ping pong ball at the other team's cups and if it lands in one the defenders must drink that beer. Whichever team takes out their opponents·cups first wins, the losers must drink the remaining beers from the victors·end of the table. Immediately you can see the entertainment value?s you continue to succeed the task becomes harder as the field of cups becomes smaller. All the while you are becoming increasingly drunk, making the task that much more difficult.
While virtually any table can be used for the game, a table made specifically for the game is advisable if you are frequently hosting parties or get-togethers where the game is featured. The game can get messy and coasters seem to offend the tacky aesthetic inherent to the game. Something portable is also a good idea, as you may find that social occasions you are going to have no surface suitable for the game and the guy who brings one is automatically the life of the party. Also outdoor events such as cook outs and tailgating can be perfect venues for the game, though nobody wants to move something bulky and not designed to be moved. A portable beer pong specific table is a good investment for the dedicated player.
