Kegerators

Kegerators are similar to mini refrigerators except they are made for beer only. The refrigerated container inside of the kegerator is what keeps the keg chilled. You can brew your beer and use your own keg or purchase a keg with the beer inside already. They come in many styles and colors. Different types of kegerators include: full size, countertop, under the counter, indoor/outdoor and commercial.

You can purchase a kegerator that has already been built and ready to go or if you are feeling crafty you can build your own by purchasing special equipment or a kit. The most important parts of a kegerator are a C02 tank, regulator, coupler, beer and air line, tap, tower, drip tray, faucet and faucet handle. Kegerators, special equipment and kits can be purchased online. If you don't want to purchase a kegerator but still want the convenience of having one, you can also rent it.

Cleaning your kegerator is a must. The inside and outside alike has to be kept sanitized. When cleaning the outside you can use your own discretion. If you see it needs to be cleaned than you should clean it. As for the inside, you must keep the beer and air lines cleaned regularly. The residue from the yeast and sugar that is in the beer collects inside of them. There are cleaning kits that will push water and cleaning solution through the lines to clean it thoroughly. If the lines are not kept clean it will affect the taste and appearance of your beer, causing it to be flat and foamy.

Light maintenance will keep your kegerator working properly for many years and save you unnecessary repairs. C02 is a very important part of your kegerator because it is what pushes the beer through the faucet so you can drink it. It is no surprise then that proper maintenance of your C02 tank is a must. If your tank is not stored upright it will cause damage to your regulator which can be very costly. The dispense pressure setting must be correct. If your beer is coming out too fast and have a lot of foam, immediately check to make sure the pressure is not to high.

If you enjoy brewing your own beer or the convenience of having your own tap in your home bar then a kegerator is for you. With proper cleaning and maintenance your beer can be stored a couple of months without losing its quality in taste. If you are having a party you will not have to worry about picking up beer cans or bottles afterwards. Kegerators are a great investment for anyone but true beer drinkers should definitely consider purchasing one.
